  • The highlight of Spanish basketball at „Talent Camp 2016

June 24th – 30th fifth international youth basketball camp “Talent Camp 2016” will be held in Kaunas. Organizers invited boys born in 2000 – 2001 and 2002 – 2004 to improve their individual basketball skills. Together with Lithuanian coaches, Spanish basketball specialist Jorge Lorenzo Calvo will work at “Talent Camp 2016”.

     – What are the differences between youth basketball in Spain and in Lithuania?

    – I haven‘t been for so long in Lithuania, to accurately identify differences, but I saw, that the base of Lithuanian basketball are passing, shooting and combinations. In Spain we more emphasize defense, fastbreak and play one on one. That’s the main differences I saw while being inLithuania.

    – How long individual basketball preparation should take? What is the best time for individual practices? Is it popular in Spain individual basketball practices during the summer time?

    – Usually here in Spain only the strongest clubs or teams and just the prospect players have individual practices for about 45 minutes two or three days a week mainly before classes early in the morning at 7:00 or 8:00 or after school around 14:00 or 15:00. For me, the best time is early in the morning but sometimes it’s impossible because of the distance or the schedule. During the summer also some of those players have an individual planning for specific skills that they have to improve. Prospects 14 years and over they have also training and international competitions with the national team.

    – What would you like to present Lithuanian basketball players from Spanish youth basketball?

    –  I think the highlights of Spanish basketball are man to man defense and fastbreak..! That is what I try to present participant of the camp.

    – What is the recipe to become Gasol, Rubio or  Fernández?

    – It’s difficult to answer but probably it’s a set of many things like a good genetics, hard work, opportunities, quality and quantity of training and competition, patient, compromise, ambition, passion, intelligence…

Together with young basketball players this year will work not even specialist from Spain, but also the head coach of Panevėžio „Lietkabelis“ – Kazys Maksvytis, head coach of  National basketball league winners Marijampolės „Sūduva – Mantinga“ – Marius Kiltinavičius and others.
