Legendary Lithuanian basketball player Saulius Štombergas in 2013 became a head coach of Kauno “Žalgiris” and worked here until April, 2014. One of the best Europe’s sniper have no time to rest. S. Štombergas is a head coach of Lithuanian U18 National basketball team, which at the end of July will take part in European Championship in Turkey.
„There are problems everywhere both in the youth basketball and adult basketball – with a smile on his face said S. Štombergas. – When you win, there are no problems, so we try to win as much as possible games with U18 team this summer to avoid these problems”.
S. Štombergas visited “adidas Talent Camp” and led a practice. “This time it was specific workout. Improve passing. We wanted it would be a good quality and timely delivered. Children of this age is important to understand when to do it. It is necessary to understand these things,” – said S. Štombergas.
“I think such a camps is very helpful. Each coach gives new information for players. True, it depends on players, if they are able to take advantage of information they get or no. There are a lot of basketball specialist at such a camps, so if young people decide to choose profession in this place, they learn a lot of valuable news”.
“When I was young, there were no such a camps, – remembered S. Štombergas. – Camps were organized by basketball schools, but they were short – lived. Nowadays kids are sure to have a lot of choices. “adidas Talent Camp” has been going for three years and allows young people to choos not passive, but intense relaxation. Young people can develop skills, access to new technologies”.
S. Štombergas since 1995 played in Lithuanian national Men’s team. He became European Champion, European vice – champion, won two Olympic bronze medals.
“Summer is a great time for young basketball players to work, – highlights one of the best Lithuanian’s forward. – Young player must have a minimal rest and take care of yourself. Every person best knows what he needs. Basketball is very challenging sport. It consist not only of your personal potential and ambition, but it a team game. During the season each player must find out his bad sides and correct it during summer”.
